  • The final official draft order is official and will only change with trades that take place until the last pick of Round 7 is announced.
  • The NHL Draft Lottery was conducted on June 2 with the Buffalo Sabres winning the No. 1 pick and the expansion Seattle club claiming the No. 2 selection.
  • Playoff teams selecting between picks 17 and 32 of Round 1
  • The last four picks of every round are reserved for conference finalists. The last two picks — No. 31 and No. 32 — are reserved for the Stanley Cup runner-up (Montreal) and champion (Tampa Bay), respectively.
  • The only teams who can draft lower than a division winner are teams who advance to the conference finals.
  • Any division winner that is eliminated before the conference final can pick no lower than 28th overall.
