Anaheim Ducks 2015 Draft Recap

Anaheim Ducks 2015 Draft Recap

Name: DucksJacob Larsson
Position: Defenseman
Shoots: Left
Height/Weight: 6’2 191 lbs
Born: April 29, 1997, Ljungby, SWE
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”A“/ 5th Eur/ 3rd Eur
Summary:  A gifted and patient puck distributor, Larsson has shown time and again that he has the brain and skills to limit the amount of time both he and his teammates spend chasing and covering opponents within the wrong side of the ice. Larsson is by no means averse to making the wrong choice during extended zone time. Things happen that are out of his control. It’s what he does during those cycles and board battles – sealing off, actively using his stick to interdict passes and shots – which places him in the upper echelon of teenage defensemen. He has a nose for transition and consistently makes reads that can catch the enemy flat footed. Skates very well and is a very good passer.

Name: Julius NatinenDucks
Position: Center
Shoots: Left
Height/Weight: 6’2 191 lbs
Born: January 14, 1997, Jyvaskyla, Finland
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”B“/ 21st Eur/ 15th Eur
Summary:  A model of responsibility and consistency in all areas of the ice, only he provides the size from the pivot position the Ducks are accustomed to possessing. More of a playmaker than a scorer, he’s put up impressive stats for Team Finland at international competitions.

Name: Brent GatesDucks
Position: Center
Shoots: Left
Height/Weight: 6’2 196 lbs
Born: August 12, 1997, Seattle, WA
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”B“/ 74th NA/ 105th Eur
Summary:  A leg injury likely cost him a higher draft position, but the Green Bay Gambler (and future Minnesota Gopher) still produced well enough in his half season (27 points in 33 games) despite playing for one of the USHL’s worst offensive teams.

Name: Deven SideroffDucks
Position: Right Wing
Shoots: Right
Height/Weight: 5’11 171 lbs
Born: April 14, 1997, Kamloops, BC
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”NR“/ 110th NA/ 134th NA
Summary:  One of the WHL’s top rookies, Sideroff produced a solid wire-to-wire campaign playing top-6 minutes on a slumping Kamloops squad. He can skate, shoot and sure knows how to get into scoring position. Scored three goals and tied for team lead with 19 shots in seven games for Team Canada at U18’s.

Name: Troy TerryDucks
Position: Center/Right Wing
Shoots: Right
Height/Weight: 5’10 160 lbs
Born: September 10, 1997, Highlands Ranch, CO
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”C“/ 87th NA/ 107th NA
Summary:  Underrated Colorado native who is heading back home to play for Denver in the fall. One of Don Granato’s most indispensable forwards, Terry produced despite battling for opportunities on a stacked NTDP team.

Name: Steven RuggieroDucks
Position: Defenseman
Shoots: Right
Height/Weight: 6’3 200 lbs
Born: January 1, 1997, Kings Park, NY
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): ”C“/ NR/ NR
Summary: Providence College will certainly welcome this steady yet mobile big-bodied defenseman, who split last year between Youngstown and the U18 team. Was a bit tentative at the U18 Worlds but did his job considering the opponent’s ridiculously low shots attempted game to game.

Name: Garrett MetcalfDucks
Position: Goaltender
Catches: Left
Height/Weight: 6’3 181 lbs
Born: March 5, 1996, Salt Lake City, UT
Central Scouting Rankings (Prelim/Mid/Final): NR / NR / NR
Summary:  Tall, rangy netminder who’s committed to UMass-Lowell but will likely return to Madison for the 2015-16 season. Metcalf finished 10th in the USHL with a .911 save percentage and has solid technical skills but needs to improve his quickness, especially if he continues to grow.
