ERIE RHD JORDAN SAMBROOK (2016) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the Otters’ 4-3 won over visiting Windsor Saturday night. Sambrook, a 6’2 native of Markham, ON, wristed a shot past Spits’ goalie Mike Giugovaz with under a minute left in the second period to give Erie a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame. It was the first goal of Sambrook’s OHL career.
FLINT C WILL BITTEN (2016) scored four goals in two games, including the OT winner in Saturday’s 3-2 triumph over visiting Sarnia to complete the hat trick. A tenacious two-way forward with excellent speed, Bitten began his memorable game with a power play goal past the midway point of the first. His goal late in the second gave the Firebirds a brief lead, and he converted a penalty shot in the extra session to clinch the victory. On Sunday, he opened the scoring again, only Flint could not hold the lead en route to a 6-4 loss to Peterborough. Bitten has points in six of his first seven games (5-4-9).
KINGSTON RW RYAN CRANFORD (2016) tallied just 1:18 into the opening period for his fourth goal in seven games as the Frontenacs held on to beat Missisauga on Friday, 2-1. A 6’0, 190-pound native of Embrun, ON, Cranford took a feed in the slot from C Ryan Verbeek and rifled a shot up and past the blocker side of Steelheads’ goalie Jack Flinn. He also drew a pivotal high-sticking penalty late in the third which led to LHD Chad Duchesne’s game-winning goal on the ensuing power play.
KITCHENER LW ADAM MASCHERIN (2016) scored his team-leading third goal of the season in Friday’s 3-2 OT defeat to Windsor. On Sunday, Mascherin added two assist in a 3-2 loss in extra time to Mississauga, extending his points streak from the start of the season to five games (3-4-7). The second overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, the 5’9, 200-pound Mascherin was given a “C” rating in the 2016 CSB preliminary prospect list.
KITCHENER C CONNOR BUNNAMAN (2016) scored a game-tying shorthanded goal late in the second period of Friday’s 3-2 overtime loss to visiting Windsor. The 31st overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, the 6’1 center darted around the Spitfires during their power play and broke in to score his second goal of the season. Bunnaman has opened the season with a point in each of his first four games but was kept off the scoresheet in Sunday’s 3-2 OT loss at Mississauga.
LONDON: LHD VICTOR METE (2016) scored the Knights’ lone goal in Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Owen Sound. It was the first strike of the season for the 5’10 puck rusher, who through Sunday was tied for fourth in scoring among OHL blueliners with five points (goal, four assists) through six games. Mete was a member of Team Canada’s gold-medal winning entry at the 2015 Hlinka, and was given a “B” rating by CSB on their preliminary draft list.
MISSISSAUGA: RW ALEX NYLANDER (2016) produced a goal and two assists over the weekend, including the game-winning goal in overtime as the Steelheads upended Kitchener on Sunday, 3-2. He has four goals and six assists in seven games through Sunday – good for second in the OHL scoring race behind Erie RW Alex DeBrincat. He is only one of seven 2016 draft eligible OHL prospects given an “A” rating by CSB.
NORTH BAY: C MAX KISLINGER (2016) has points in three straight games, including the critical opening marker in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Sault Ste Marie. It was the first OHL goal for the 6’2 German, who was the 43rd overall pick in the 2015 CHL Import Draft and now has 1-2-3 in six games on the season.
NORTH BAY: LHD CAM DINEEN (2016) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the Battalion’s impressive 3-1 at Sault Ste Marie on Saturday. Dineen, who played for Team USA at the 2015 Hlinka, jumped in on a rush by Mike Amadio and fired a shot from the left circle for his first career goal in the OHL. The 5’11, 183-pound native of Toms River, NJ originally committed to playing NCAA hockey at Yale University before switching over to the CHL in the offseason.
OTTAWA: LW TRAVIS BARRON (2016) registered an assist in each of his two games as the 67’s won both of their road contests over the weekend. Rated a “B” prospect on CSB’s preliminary draft list and the third overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection (behind Jakob Chychrun and Adam Mascherin, Barron set up the eventual game winner in Saturday’s 4-0 blanking of host Barrie. On Sunday, the Belfountain, ON native set up RW Trent Mallete with a pivotal insurance marker in a 7-5 win over host Owen Sound. At 6’1, 188 and a late-1998 birthday (August 17th), and a two-way skill set centered on speed, power and tenacity, expect Barron to crack CSB’s top-40 in their midterm rankings for North American prospects.
PETERBOROUGH: RW ADAM TIMLECK (2016) provided a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 7-2 win at Saginaw. Timleck, a Toronto native who was the 62nd overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection, already has two multi-point efforts in the young season – the only two of his OHL career.
PETERBOROUGH: LW LOGAN DENOBLE (2016) set up two goals in a 7-2 win at Saginaw on Saturday, and would add his first goal of the season the following day in the Petes’ 6-4 triumph over Flint. A 13th round pick (242nd overall) in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, DeNoble broke through with a one-timer off a feed from C Hunter Garlent.
PETERBOROUGH: LHD MATT TIMMS (2016) posted three assists in three games over the weekend and is now tied for third in assists among all OHL blueliners with five in eight games. The 5’10 Waterdown, ON native, who last season compiled seven points in 49 games as a rookie, helped set up second-period goals by C Josh Coyle and LW Hunter Garlent in a 7-2 win at Saginaw on Saturday.
PETERBOROUGH: G DYLAN WELLS (2016) won both his weekend starts, including an impressive 46-save performance in Saturday’s 7-2 rout of host Saginaw. Wells, who led Canada to gold at the 2015 Hlinka with a .930 save percentage in three starts, stopped 26 of 30 shots the following day in a win at Flint. He is now 3-1-0 on the season and has faced 30 or more shots in each of his four starts.
SARNIA: RW CHASE CAMPBELL (2016) took advantage of a consistent shift by firing home his first career OHL goal in the Sting’s 3-2 comeback victory over Sudbury on Sunday. The 5’8 skill forward and Waterloo native took a pass from Daniel Nikandrov and rifled a wrist shot home from just inside the right circle. Campbell was Sarnia’s third round pick (55th overall) in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.
SAULT STE MARIE: LW TIM GETTINGER (2016) broke a five-game goal drought with the Soo’s lone tally in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to visiting North Bay. The 6’6 winger entered the contest with only one assist in his previous four games following a red-hot start in which he produced six points (two goals, four assists) in his first three games of the season. A native of North Olmstead, OH, Gettinger was given a “B” rating in Central Scouting’s preliminary rankings.
SUDBURY: C DMITRI SOKOLOV (2016) scored his first OHL goal in a 6-2 loss at London on Friday, and added an assist in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to host Sarnia. Sokolov, a 6’2, 220-pound power forward who was the third overall pick in the 2015 CHL Import Draft, fired a wrist shot home late in the third against the Knights. He is tied for the team lead in scoring with 2-3-5 in seven games, but the Wolves are an OHL-worst 1-6-0 (.143).
WINDSOR: C LOGAN BROWN (2016) registered an assist in each of the Spitfires’ three games over the weekend, giving him a team-high nine points (one goal, eight assists) through his first six games. Playing as Windsor’s top-line center for most of this season, Brown logged big minutes as the Spits went 2-1-0 in their three games, and own the OHL’s second best record (5-1-1) behind undefeated Erie.
