  • Watch a lot of hockey
  • Compile player biographical data, statistics, and game reports to create individual profiles for draft-eligible prospects
  • Maintain spreadsheets that filter or sort current or historical rosters, and player or team data
  • Create personal draft rankings based on live and digital viewings
  • Write deadline and non-deadline reports that preview and recap specific key matchups and high-profile events (international tournaments, top prospect games, combines, etc.)
  • Establish and update calendars with schedules for dozens of junior and adult leagues in North America and Europe
  • Track statistical trends (streaks, droughts, time-on-ice fluctuations, etc.) and incorporate data in social media posts and posted player evaluations
  • Possess flexibility to cover NHL topics unrelated to prospects (NHL awards, Stanley Cup Playoffs, etc.)
  • Adhere to The Draft Analysts’s Standard Operating Procedures


  • Access to live streams from leagues in North America and Europe

  • Fanatical love for the NHL and its history
  • Strong command of hockey language and terminology
  • General understanding of hockey tactics and strategies at the individual and team levels
  • Own or are working towards a journalism or communications degree and basic knowledge of AP style are plusses but not are required
  • Previous experience working in online sports media as a staff writer, blogger, or contributor
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office; specifically Photoshop, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ace the best written test you’ll ever take in your life
